Hailing from the outskirts of D.C., singer/songwriter
Katie Arnold has been writing music for the last 20

It was most recently described as 'what would happen if you crossed Joni Mitchell and Kurt Weill'. Her niche lies in a modern, accessible, popular sound wrapped in a narrative style molded by years of classical training and a love of cultivated music. She is playing regularly at numerous New York City venues and is very excited to be back at Caffe Vivaldi. 7:30-9pm Z.R.A
Singer/Songwriter/Rock

"While it's not shocking that the son of a recording engineer became a musician, what does come as a surprise are the densely layered, complex melodies heard on Z.R.A.'s new EP "Blind Sighted." As you listen to each song, it's hard to believe that not only have they been composed and recorded by the same musician, but that Zach Arrias is responsible for all of the instrumentation as well. From the confidently catchy "Chronicle of Ease", the melancholic, indifferent "So I Care," to the dark, gritty "More than Eleven," it's not hard to see why he has been nominated LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS SINGER/SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR! It takes most musicians' decades to produce the quality of music Z.R.A. is creating at the age of 25. The songwriter writes, 'I know where my sight is' from what I can tell it must be on world domination!" - Indie In-Tune Magazine
  9:30-11:00pm Sam Yulsman

He has also sat in with Charmaine Neville at Snug Harbor, New Orleans’ premiere jazz club, and played at many jazz festivals, including the Denver JazzFest, Mile High Jazz Festival, and the Telluride Jazz Festival under the direction of Brooklyn jazz legend John McNeil. Yulsman has been recognized with many awards and honors in both jazz and classical music. He lives in Niwot, Colorado, and is a regular in Denver's vibrant jazz scene. This will be his second performance at Caffe Vivaldi.

7:30-9pm Kagero
Japanese Gypsy Rock Band

"Echoes of bossanova, Radiohead, Elvis Costello, everything sounds like this band should be performing in a Paris café to a room full of expatriates.                   -Ben Kreiger, Jezebel Music

Kagero's gypsy-flavored acoustic rock is knocking New York's indie scene on its tushy. The sound has been described as a melting pot of tonalities and rhythms from Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Kagero pulls their core rock sound from David Bowie and Neil Young, and adds the gypsy flavor of the violin found in the works of Stephane Grappelli. With a high-energy show that entices even the most jaded hipster into busting a gleefully bohemian move, Kagero's world music goulash is very tasty – even if you don't always know what's you're eating. Just call them your local neighborhood urban-gypsophonic, border-jumping, international debtor's prison groove-loving feelgood band next door.
  9:30-11:00pm NLX

And she is back with "more" new andexciting stuff in 2008.

7:30-9:00pm Garry Novikoff
Rock / Folk / Pop
With an eclectic mix of moods and styles, Bronx-born singer/songwriter Garry Novikoff’s style has been described as Barenaked Ladies meets Harry Nilsson eating Red Hot Chili Peppers over at the Fountains of Wayne on Avenue Q. Garry’s songs delve deep, revealing a rare frankness on such topics as modern love, sexuality, and chocolate eclairs. Blending humor and pathos, Garry brings an intensity to his live performances unmatched by most artists today. “A Normal Life,” his long-awaited full-length CD, will be released independently in spring of 2008.
  9:30-11:00pm Jennifer Niceley
Pop / Country / Jazz
"If you're still wondering what Billie Joe and his paramour threw off the Tallahatchie Bridge, here's an unexplored theory: It was the unborn blueprint for the music of Jennifer Niceley, a Knoxville-raised, East Nashville-based singer and songwriter with a flair for Southern gothic drama and a torch to bear for all the hearts her after-after-hours croon sends down river. With her new full-length debut Luminous, she rewrites Bobby Blue Bland's "Blind Man" as "Blind Woman," letting a luxuriant string section wash away the blues, and redefines sultry soul the way Neko Case redefines moody alt-country or Billie Holiday redefines jazz balladry. Guided by the shadowy slide and distended riffs of guitarist Joe McMahan, Niceley evokes midnight confessions, turbulent romance and a dark, flowing, mysterious lyricism."

The classically-trained pianist Sasha Papernik blends Tango, Jazz, 30s European Nightclub, and, most surprisingly, Schubert into her new songs for solo voice and piano. One reviewer noted: "With slower beats
and simpler chords, her inclinations might have taken her into folk, given her propensity for ballad-like narratives and wistful images. As it is, the flurry of fingers behind her voice locates the energy somewhere in between Broadway and a slinky Casablanca evening club..." Currently, she is producing her first album of original songs and performing at venues in New York City and the Boston area.
